San Francisco 49ers reshape roster after Pearsall injury and Marathe departure

The San Francisco 49ers announced that rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall will undergo season‑ending surgery on his posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) and has been placed on injured reserve, leaving a hole in the receiving corps. To address the loss, the team signed veteran wide receiver Deebo Samuel to a one‑year contract worth up to $7 million, bringing him back to the squad after a season with Washington. Samuel is expected to contribute as a receiver, return specialist and occasional back.

In parallel, longtime executive vice‑president of football operations Paraag Marathe is exiting the organization after 25 years to focus on the 49ers’ European soccer holdings, Leeds United and Rangers FC. Marathe’s departure creates a senior front‑office vacancy that the club expects to fill internally. Additional roster moves include signing veteran running back Khalil Herbert and defensive lineman Titus Leo, while other receivers such as Christian Kirk remain sidelined with a calf strain.
