Deendayal Port Authority hits 100 MMT milestone and targets green fuel hub status

Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in Kandla has reached a major operational milestone, surpassing 100 million tonnes (MMT) of cargo throughput on October 6, 2026. This achievement was recorded 51 days ahead of the previous fiscal year's schedule, marking the port's fastest-ever attainment of this volume.

In conjunction with its operational growth, the DPA hosted the Kandla Forum 2026, titled ‘Anchoring Maritime Decarbonisation’. The event gathered over 200 senior executives, including 62 members of the Hydrogen Council, to discuss investments in green fuels and sustainable shipping. The forum aimed to position Kandla as a hub for green hydrogen and maritime decarbonisation, aligning with India’s goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2070.

Chairman Sushil Kumar Singh presented the port's existing and planned green-energy infrastructure, which includes a 1 MW green hydrogen plant currently in operation and additional facilities under development. The port has also completed India’s first methanol bunkering trial and is actively seeking international partnerships for technology deployment and joint ventures in the maritime energy transition.
