DEEP Robotics tests DR02 humanoid robots for traffic control in Hangzhou
DEEP Robotics has deployed its DR02 humanoid robots for field trials in Hangzhou, China, to test their effectiveness in traffic management and urban infrastructure automation. The trials took place in the Xihu District, specifically at busy intersections such as Zheda Road and West Wenyi Road, as well as the Xixi National Wetland Park.
The DR02 models are being tested under challenging weather conditions, including heavy rain, utilizing their IP66-rated waterproof and dustproof protection. The robots are designed to assist traffic officers by performing roadside duties such as signaling traffic lights, directing riders to stay behind stop lines, and providing multilingual tourist support.
Beyond manual signaling, the robots utilize visual perception and recognition systems to monitor for traffic infractions. These include identifying motorcyclists not wearing helmets, detecting overloaded vehicles, and spotting pedestrians or automobiles crossing marked boundaries. The units are capable of issuing automated voice-based warnings to address these violations.
