Deepal S05 electric SUV receives LiDAR and plug‑in hybrid upgrades

Chinese automaker Deepal, a brand of Changan, launched a refreshed version of its popular S05 electric SUV. The model is now offered in five trim levels with pre‑sale prices ranging from roughly $17,600 to $22,300. Exterior changes keep the closed front grille while adding new LED "Deepal Eye" headlights, frameless doors and 18‑inch alloy wheels. Inside, a 15.6‑inch 2.5K multimedia screen, 256‑colour ambient lighting and vegan‑leather upholstery are standard. The upgraded S05 integrates a roof‑mounted LiDAR unit and a total of 26 high‑precision sensors that feed the SDA Pilot autonomous‑driving system, supporting more than 90 functions such as city‑drive, highway pilot and auto‑park. It is powered by a 272‑hp (202 kW) synchronous motor, delivers 0‑100 km/h in 6.3 seconds, and uses CATL cells with a claimed CLTC range of 520‑620 km. Fast charging raises the battery from 30 % to 80 % in about 15 minutes.

A parallel plug‑in hybrid version, the Deepal S05 Ultra, adds a hybrid drivetrain, a 4.59‑m length, a 2.88‑m wheelbase and features such as an AR‑HUD, 50 W wireless smartphone charging and Vehicle‑to‑Load power output. The cabin emphasizes minimalism with a rotating 15.4‑inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and spacious seating for passengers.
