Deepfake technology poses rising risks to cybersecurity and corporate trust

Cybersecurity experts and researchers are warning of the escalating risks posed by deepfake technology, noting that it has evolved from a digital novelty into a sophisticated tool for social engineering and corporate disruption.

Experts from Keeper Security and Adaptive Security highlight that AI-driven attacks are becoming increasingly scalable and persuasive. Criminals can now use cloned voices and faces to impersonate individuals, making traditional instincts insufficient for detecting fraud. This shift allows attackers to generate highly personalized phishing attacks in seconds.

Beyond individual security, research suggests deepfakes are creating a “disruptive trust crisis” for businesses. A study by Anja Körnle indicates that the primary threat is not just individual fake videos, but the gradual erosion of general trust in all visual and auditory content. To combat this, experts recommend a combination of technological detection software, structured internal crisis processes, and proactive communication strategies to maintain credibility.
