DeepSeek AI startup hires Tsinghua award winner amid interview complaints

DeepSeek announced that Gu Yuxian, a 2021‑class PhD from Tsinghua University and recipient of the university’s 2025 Special Scholarship, has joined the firm. Gu, whose research on large‑language‑model efficiency has been cited nearly 5,000 times, will work on the upcoming DeepSeek V4 release slated for mid‑July.

The company also faced public criticism after former Huawei prodigy Li Bojie posted that his interview process was slow, overly demanding and that interviewers accused him of copying code. Li said he felt “severely offended” and terminated the interview, drawing attention to DeepSeek’s hiring practices.
