DeepSeek AI startup launches massive hiring push as $7 bn fundraising nears completion
Chinese artificial‑intelligence startup DeepSeek announced a large‑scale hiring drive that will double the size of every department. The recruitment effort focuses on technical and engineering roles, including data engineers, development engineers and cross‑disciplinary AI talent.
The hiring plan is tied to a fundraising round valued at roughly $7 billion (about 50 billion yuan), one of the biggest startup financings in China. Investors such as Tencent and Contemporary Amperex are involved, with funds placed in a limited partnership managed by founder‑CEO Liang Wenfeng and subject to a five‑year lock‑up and no voting rights. The capital is intended to accelerate DeepSeek’s research, product development and infrastructure to compete more aggressively with global rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic, as well as domestic competitors including Alibaba and MiniMax.
