DeepSeek and Huawei partner to open-source AI software for Ascend chips
DeepSeek and Huawei have announced a collaboration to develop and open-source a software infrastructure stack specifically for Huawei’s Ascend AI chips. This initiative aims to build an independent GPU software ecosystem to reduce China's reliance on NVIDIA's CUDA platform.
The open-source release includes TileLang, a high-level programming language designed to offer a simpler programming model than CUDA while maximizing hardware performance. Other released components include DeepGEMM for matrix operations, DeepEP for device communication, TileKernels for vector and memory operations, FlashMLA for sparse attention, and DeepSelect for data selection.
As part of this partnership, the companies have also optimized a supernode system that integrates 128 Ascend 950 chips, focusing on enhancing both computing and communication efficiency. DeepSeek has already utilized TileLang in the training of its V4 series models and plans to expand the use of domestic hardware to diversify its computing resources.
