DeepSeek announces hiring of 150 engineers to scale infrastructure

DeepSeek has announced a major hiring initiative, opening approximately 150 engineering positions focused on backend systems and Agent elastic-compute. Notably, these roles are strictly for engineering and infrastructure, with no positions dedicated to AI research.

Tianyi Cui, head of the DeepSeek Harness team, stated that the expansion is necessary to address the increasing complexity brought by rising volumes of data, training tasks, evaluation jobs, and user requests. The company’s existing backend systems require upgrades, maintenance, and rewrites to support future scale. As of March 2026, DeepSeek reported 127 million monthly active users.

The recruitment targets engineers with two to ten years of experience to work on several key areas, including large-model research platforms, Agent framework components, R&D infrastructure, the public API, and online services. A central focus is DSec, the company’s elastic-compute layer designed to manage sandbox environments for agent workloads using technologies like Firecracker microVMs and QEMU virtual machines.
