DeepSeek reportedly nears 100 billion yuan funding round

DeepSeek is reportedly nearing the completion of a new funding round valued at approximately 100 billion yuan. This follows an initial round of roughly 51 billion yuan in June, potentially bringing the company’s total funding within a six-month period to 150 billion yuan. The scale of this latest round was reportedly increased from an original target of 50 billion yuan to 80 billion, and finally to 100 billion yuan.

Investors reportedly include a diverse group of major Chinese industrial players, such as Tencent, CATL, Geely-linked funds, and Lenovo-related Legend Capital. Other participants include companies from the semiconductor, manufacturing, and consumer electronics sectors, such as Midea and Meituan. The company is seeking not only capital but also strategic synergies involving data and business cooperation.

Alongside financial growth, DeepSeek is aggressively expanding its workforce and infrastructure. The company has signaled plans to double the size of all departments and is targeting roles in technical R&D, computing infrastructure, and product implementation. Additionally, DeepSeek plans to build a GW-scale data center in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, which may deploy at least 160,000 Huawei Ascend 950DT chips, a procurement with a nominal value exceeding 40 billion yuan.
