DeepSeek to Build 1GW AI Data Center in Inner Mongolia

Chinese AI startup DeepSeek is planning a large‑scale artificial‑intelligence data center in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, with a target computing capacity of one gigawatt. The facility is slated to begin operations by the end of 2027 or early 2028 and will combine DeepSeek‑owned infrastructure with leased capacity from other providers. Ulanqab was chosen for its cold climate – an average annual temperature of about 4 °C – which reduces the energy needed for server cooling.

Recruitment ads posted in April listed senior roles for a data‑center delivery manager and a senior operations engineer, confirming the project's progress.
