More than half of the tracks uploaded to Deezer each day are now created by artificial intelligence, amounting to roughly 90,000 songs daily—a rise from about 10% in January 2025. Because streaming services distribute a fixed pool of subscription and advertising revenue across all streams, the flood of AI‑generated tracks expands the denominator while the payout pool stays roughly flat, diluting the per‑stream value that human musicians receive.

The influx includes both legitimate AI compositions, which earn modest streams, and fraudulent operations that mass‑produce disposable songs and use bots to generate streams, effectively diverting royalties. Industry observers have described this activity as a $4 billion fraud machine. Labels and distributors are beginning to police uploads, imposing penalties for artificial streaming.

Music professionals are also developing detection methods. Audible clues such as overly perfect pitch, uniform reverb, and repetitive instrumental textures, along with lyrical genericness and metadata anomalies—like missing performer credits or unusually rapid release histories—help flag synthetic tracks. Automated tools are increasingly incorporated into workflow to protect the royalty pool.
