Defence Minister Dendias praises Air Force civil‑protection at Eleusis
On 22 July Defence Minister Nikos Dendias visited the 355th Firefighting Aircraft Squadron and the Aircraft Maintenance Squadron of the 112th Combat Wing at Eleusis Air Base. He stated that the Air Force’s duties extend beyond strictly military missions, emphasizing daily operations that safeguard lives, property, natural resources, and support the national health system and civil‑protection authorities through aerial firefighting, air‑lift and other rescue activities.
Dendias highlighted the need to renew and upgrade the ageing fleet of firefighting aircraft, linking the modernization effort to the broader "Agenda 2030" defence reform program. He also paid tribute to crew members who lost their lives while performing these missions, urging continued state support for the personnel and capabilities of the armed forces.
