Defence, Security and Resilience Bank seeks 100 billion euros for defense funding

The Defence, Security and Resilience Bank (DSRB), a proposed international financial institution designed to fund defense industry investments and government rearmament, has secured approximately 5 billion euros in commitments as of August. This figure falls significantly short of the 100 billion euro target set by its initiators.

The project, which aims to establish a 20 billion euro paid-in capital base to eventually mobilize an additional 80 billion euros, is currently supported by Canada, Albania, Belgium, Greece, Latvia, Luxembourg, Romania, Turkey, and Ukraine. The bank is intended to provide low-cost loans to governments and defense companies, including smaller firms through financing guarantees.

Canada is leading efforts to expand the founding membership before the formal constitutive agreement is signed this autumn. While several nations have expressed support, major economies including Germany and the United Kingdom have not yet committed. Germany is currently participating as an observer, while Canada is actively working to convince the United Kingdom to join the initiative.
