Defendant appeals death sentence in Dong Nai triple murder case

Nguyen Duc Anh, 21, has filed an appeal seeking a reduced sentence following his death penalty conviction for the murder of a man, his wife, and their two children in Dong Nai province. The crimes occurred on the night of September 2 and early morning of September 3, after Anh attempted to break into the home of an ex-girlfriend.

After being repelled from the ex-girlfriend's residence, Anh entered a neighboring house and attacked the resident, identified as N.V.Q. During the struggle, Anh also fatally attacked the victim's wife and two children. The Dong Nai Provincial People's Court previously sentenced Anh to death for murder and the illegal use of military weapons, while also ordering him to pay over 1.1 billion VND in civil damages.

Lawyer Do Ngoc Thanh, representing the victims' family, stated that while the right to appeal is respected, the severity of the crime and the irreparable loss of three lives must be heavily considered. Meanwhile, the defendant's parents reportedly traveled to Nghe An to meet the victims' family and express their intention to assist with compensation for the damages.
