Defense cybersecurity market projected to reach $77.9 billion by 2035

The global defense cybersecurity market is projected to grow from $38.2 billion in 2024 to over $77.9 billion by 2035, driven by the increasing digitalization of military command, control, and intelligence systems. As defense ecosystems rely more heavily on cloud environments, autonomous systems, and satellite networks, the attack surface for cyber threats such as ransomware and espionage expands.

In Japan, the Ministry of Defense is prioritizing cyber capabilities, allocating approximately 233.1 billion yen for FY2026 to enhance cyber defense frameworks and risk management. The Japanese government is also moving toward ‘active cyber defense,’ supported by the establishment of the National Cyber Office (NCO) to coordinate information sharing and infrastructure protection.

A significant trend in the sector is the integration of cybersecurity directly into military hardware, such as fighter jets and radar systems, rather than relying solely on network-level protection. This shift emphasizes platform-level resilience, including embedded intrusion detection and secure boot technologies, to ensure mission assurance even during active cyberattacks.
