Defense firms advance counter-drone technology through trials and US military deployment
Defense companies BAE Systems and DroneShield have reached significant milestones in the development and deployment of counter-uncrewed aircraft systems (C-UAS).
BAE Systems successfully completed two weeks of live trials in Scotland for its Anti Threat System (BATS). The trials validated an integrated ‘sense, decide, effect’ mission chain, allowing operators to use a single command-and-control architecture to detect, identify, and respond to drone threats. The testing included non-kinetic responses using electronic warfare and software-defined radio technologies to counter evolving aerial threats.
Separately, DroneShield announced the successful installation and acceptance of its DroneSentry-X Mk2 units on US military Infantry Squad Vehicles (ISVs). This deployment, part of the Joint Interagency Task Force 401 (JIATF-401) program, provides mobile detection and electronic countermeasure capabilities. The system allows forces to maintain protection against small uncrewed aircraft while moving or stationary, rather than relying solely on fixed infrastructure.
