Defense Industry Cluster emphasizes supply chain strength in Spain
Guillermo Becedoniz Mazarrasa, Secretary General of the Defense Industry Cluster (CID), emphasized the necessity of a strong supply chain to develop major defense champions in Spain. Speaking at the Defence & Tech Summit 2026 in Gijón, Becedoniz highlighted the evolution of the sector since the CID's inception in 2019.
The cluster aims to integrate small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) into the defense ecosystem, which was previously fragmented and lacked centralized information regarding industrial capabilities. The CID currently manages 20 specialized working groups covering sectors such as aerospace, telecommunications, naval construction, robotics, defense logistics, military health, and munitions.
Currently, 160 companies are involved in these groups. Becedoniz noted that while the defense sector is often dominated by large corporations, significant opportunities exist for SMEs that actively seek to integrate into the supply chain.
