Defense of Aca Đukanović requests live media broadcasts of trial

Slobodan Stašević, the lawyer representing Aca Đukanović, has submitted a request to the Supreme Court of Montenegro seeking direct media broadcasts of all hearings in the ongoing trial against his client. The proceedings are currently being held at the Basic Court in Nikšić.

Stašević argues that the case has already become a subject of intense political and media speculation, which he claims creates a false impression of guilt before any facts are established by the court. He stated that the defense aims to ensure transparency, allowing citizens to hear arguments from both sides and the defendant's direct responses to questions, rather than relying on selective media reports.

The request is based on the right to a public trial as outlined in Article 32 of the Constitution of Montenegro and Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights. The defense emphasized that live broadcasting would protect the privacy of participants and sensitive data as required by law, while costing the state nothing.
