Defense procurement updates in Peru and Colombia

In Peru, the Armed Forces Procurement Agency (Acffaa) has suspended the construction of three ship slips at the SIMA Callao shipyard. The suspension follows a decision to reallocate the initially planned budget to an emergency purpose. Additionally, the selection process for the physical construction of the slips was declared void after the sole valid bidder, Consorcio San Sebastián, failed to meet the necessary conditions to sign the contract due to a lack of required documentation from its primary member, Proyectos Industriales JR SAC.

In Colombia, three multinational companies—Airbus, Leonardo, and Bell—are competing for a defense contract valued at approximately $387 million. The tender aims to replace 28 aging Huey II helicopters in the Colombian Air Force fleet. These aircraft are critical for troop transport, support operations, and evacuations in difficult terrain, particularly in the context of the country's ongoing internal security challenges.
