Defense technology advances with new drone defense and hypersonic missile initiatives

Northrop Grumman has introduced Raid Hunter, a new short-range air defense system designed to counter drone swarms, cruise missiles, and stealthy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The system utilizes a 50 mm Bushmaster III gun alongside precision-guided 50 mm ammunition to provide a low-cost, high-capacity solution for neutralizing multiple simultaneous targets.

Separately, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has issued a Request for Information for its Next Generation Hypersonic Cruise Missile (NGHCM) program. The initiative seeks to develop a hypersonic weapon capable of outclassing modern integrated air defense systems. DARPA is specifically targeting non-traditional contractors to produce radical, scalable, and affordable hypersonic technology.
