Defensorias nos Babaçuais project launches second edition in Tocantins

The second edition of the “Defensorias nos Babaçuais” project is set to take place from August 25 to 27, focusing on providing legal assistance and protecting the rights of traditional coconut breaker communities. In Tocantins, activities will be concentrated in the municipalities of Esperantina and Sampaio, specifically within the Cacheado community in the North Tocantins Extractive Reserve.

Developed by the Specialized Center for Agrarian and Environmental Public Defense (DPagra) of the Tocantins Public Defender's Office (DPE-TO), the initiative is a collaborative effort with the Public Defender's Offices of Maranhão and Piauí, alongside the Interstate Movement of Babaçu Coconut Breakers (MIQCB). The project aims to ensure territorial protection, environmental preservation, and legal access for workers who rely on babaçu extraction for their livelihoods.
