DeFlock America Facebook group exceeds 800,000 members

The DeFlock America Facebook group has grown to over 800,000 members, reflecting increasing opposition to the automated license plate reader (ALPR) networks operated by Flock Safety.

The surge in membership follows controversial remarks made by Flock Safety CEO Garrett Langley, who previously characterized DeFlock as a “terroristic organization.” Langley has since apologized for the comment, acknowledging that critics have legitimate concerns regarding the technology.

DeFlock America acts as an anti-surveillance movement that maps the locations of Flock cameras and encourages communities to challenge municipal contracts for surveillance technology. Critics of the ALPR systems argue that the ability to reconstruct vehicle movements raises significant privacy, data retention, and oversight issues. Conversely, supporters maintain that the technology is a vital tool for law enforcement to identify vehicles involved in crimes and locate missing persons.
