Dehiwala grenade attack kills two children

Two children, aged 11 and 17, were killed and their 55-year-old father was injured during a grenade attack in Dehiwala, Sri Lanka, in the early hours of Friday morning. The blast occurred at a residence on Sirisangabo Mawatha.

Preliminary investigations suggest the attackers targeted the wrong house. The intended target was allegedly a neighboring residence linked to an individual suspected of narcotics distribution and associated with organized crime figure Badovita Asanka. The attack is believed to be part of an ongoing feud between groups linked to Asanka and a rival underworld figure known as Kos Malli.

The father was admitted to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital for treatment. Authorities are investigating how criminal gangs obtained military-grade hand grenades, as the incident highlights a pattern of escalating underworld violence across the country. No arrests have been made yet.
