Dehradun officials to file FIRs against river waste dumpers
Dehradun District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan has announced that First Information Reports (FIRs) will be filed against individuals caught dumping garbage into rivers or along riverbanks. The directive aims to curb river pollution and improve solid waste management in the region.
Chauhan instructed Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to strengthen waste management systems and ensure strict compliance with Supreme Court guidelines. Officials have been ordered to identify unauthorized dumping sites immediately and hold the responsible agencies accountable for any negligence. To prevent waste from entering waterways, the DM suggested installing nets or barriers in vulnerable areas.
Additionally, authorities will monitor septic tankers to ensure waste is treated at designated sewage treatment plants before disposal. Large establishments, categorized as bulk waste generators, must also ensure proper segregation of wet and dry waste. A dedicated cell has been established to oversee compliance with Supreme Court directives and monitor the implementation of waste management rules.
