Dei BioPharma files seven US patents for mRNA cancer vaccines

Ugandan biotechnology company Dei BioPharma has filed seven patent applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for messenger RNA (mRNA) cancer vaccine technologies. The filings, submitted between August 18 and 25, were led by founder Dr. Matthias Magoola as the inventor.

The company is developing a modular immunotherapy platform designed to target specific molecular drivers of cancer. Rather than focusing on the organ where cancer originates, the approach uses pre-manufactured vaccine candidates that match the molecular characteristics of a patient's tumor, sometimes accounting for human leukocyte antigen (HLA) type.

The seven patent applications cover various molecular targets, including: • A BCR-ABL fusion-junction for fusion-positive leukaemia. • An EGFRvIII deletion-junction for certain glioma subgroups. • NPM1 for molecularly defined acute myeloid leukaemia. • A multiplex RAS hotspot design for RAS-mutant tumours. • A TP53 R175H target. • A sequence-attenuated HPV16/18 construct.
