Deion Sanders declares he is cancer‑free after bladder surgery
Colorado football coach Deion Sanders announced he is cancer‑free a year after undergoing a radical cystectomy performed with robotic assistance. The procedure removed his cancerous bladder and reconstructed it using a segment of his intestine at UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital, under the care of Dr. Janet Kukreja.
Sanders said the surgery “got me back in the game, got me back on my feet and back into a normal life.” He missed the previous season and summer camps while receiving treatment, but he is now preparing to participate in Colorado’s fall football camp.
He highlighted the high‑risk nature of the tumor, noting a 50‑50 chance of recurrence, and encouraged others facing similar health challenges to consider surgical options.
