Deir ez-Zor National Hospital opens new MRI department
A new MRI department has been inaugurated at the National Hospital in Deir ez-Zor, Syria. The facility was established through a local donation campaign known as ‘Deir al-Ezz’ and was officially opened on Friday, October 16, 2026, by Health Minister Musab al-Ali and Minister of Higher Education Marwan al-Halabi.
The new equipment is the second of its kind in the province and is designed to reduce the need for patients to travel to other provinces, such as Damascus, for specialized diagnostic imaging. The machine does not require helium gas, which is expected to lower maintenance requirements. Each scan is estimated to take between 20 and 40 minutes.
In addition to the MRI department, the Ministry of Health announced that twelve health centers in the province are scheduled to open next week. Other upcoming medical developments in the region include the opening of a maxillofacial surgery department, a blood bank in Mayadin, and preparations for a blood bank in Al-Bukamal.
