Dej, Romania teen placed under protection order after assaulting mother over drug dispute

In the town of Dej, Romania, parents of a 17‑year‑old son sought a court protection order after he assaulted his mother when she discovered drugs in his pockets. The incident occurred at the end of April 2026. Police responded to the 112 emergency call, detained the teenager, and arranged his admission to the pediatric psychiatry department of the Cluj County Emergency Children’s Hospital.

A provisional protection order was issued against the minor, and the parents have now asked the Dej District Court for a permanent order. The teen, who began using psychoactive substances around age 14‑15, declined participation in a detox program, stating he did not want to be placed in an unfamiliar treatment centre. He was not present in court, remaining in the medical facility.
