Deji Adeleke blames corps members and police for election rigging in Nigeria

Billionaire businessman Deji Adeleke, president of Adeleke University and brother of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, said that election integrity in Nigeria is compromised by Youth Corps members and police officers who collect cash and alter results at polling units. Speaking at the university’s 12th undergraduate and 8th postgraduate convocation in Ede, he argued that the Independent National Electoral Commission chairman cannot supervise the 3,763 polling units in Osun State and that blame should not rest solely on the INEC head.

Adeleke alleged that some corps members receive ₦50,000 to change figures and that deployed police have aided the rigging process, contributing to election‑related violence and deaths. He warned that such practices damage Nigeria’s international reputation and called for honest conduct by all officials involved in elections.
