Peter Obi denies military salary claims and criticizes Nigerian institutions

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has addressed several political developments ahead of the 2027 general elections. Obi issued a formal denial regarding reports claiming he advised the Nigerian military to reject salary increases until after the 2027 elections. Describing the claims as false and misleading, Obi reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare, equipment, and safety of security personnel, stating that military well-being would be a paramount priority if elected president.

In a separate engagement at the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation Democracy Dialogue in Bauchi, Obi criticized the current state of Nigerian institutions. He expressed concern over religious leaders praying for what he termed ‘criminal politicians’ and lamented the declining standards within the judiciary and the electoral system. He specifically highlighted the need to address legal loopholes and the weakening of electoral safeguards to protect future generations.
