Džeko Hodžić: Commemoration held for prominent Bosnian painter
A commemoration was held at the National Theatre in Sarajevo to honor the life and work of painter Džeko Hodžić, who passed away on October 11 at the age of 76. During the ceremony, a book of condolences was presented to pay tribute to his significant contributions to the arts.
Born in 1950 in Godijevo, Hodžić established an extensive international career, participating in 84 solo and 587 collective exhibitions. His work has been showcased across Bosnia and Herzegovina, Europe, Egypt, Canada, and the United States. He was a long-standing member of the Association of Fine Artists of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ULUBiH) since 1980.
Art historian Elma Fišić described his work, specifically noting his 'Apocalypse' exhibition, as possessing a monumental and powerful materiality. She noted that his artistic language sought to express the human experience of violence and destruction through a unique use of drawing, color, and form.
