DEKRA operates Europe’s largest battery testing center in Germany

In Klettwitz, Germany, the DEKRA facility operates Europe’s largest battery testing center, where electric vehicle (EV) battery prototypes are subjected to extreme environmental and physical stress tests.

Under the direction of Thomas Hucke, the facility utilizes specialized chambers to simulate conditions ranging from -40 degrees Celsius to extreme heat similar to the Sahara Desert. Testing protocols include exposure to water, fire, high-voltage currents, and large-scale sandstorms to ensure battery safety and durability before they reach consumers.

Beyond automotive applications, the center also tests large-scale stationary energy storage systems to certify their suitability for various global markets.
