Delaware GOP candidate removed from forum after misgendering Rep. Sarah McBride

During a political forum hosted by the Jewish Federation of Delaware at the Siegel Jewish Community Center in Talleyville, Republican U.S. House candidate Joe Arminio was asked to leave after misgendering his opponent, Representative Sarah McBride.

Arminio, a political scientist who recently won the GOP primary, referred to McBride, the first openly transgender member of the U.S. House of Representatives, using masculine pronouns and calling her a “gentleman.” The comments drew boos from the crowd of approximately 100 attendees. Following a warning from the moderator regarding respect for stage participants, Arminio concluded his remarks.

Dr. Michael Katz, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, used his opening statement to apologize for the comments, citing a belief in common humanity and respect. Katz subsequently called for Arminio to withdraw from the race.
