Delaware Governor Matt Meyer signs immigration and education laws

Delaware Governor Matt Meyer has signed several significant pieces of legislation addressing immigration protections and public education funding.

Regarding immigration, the Governor signed HB 150, HB 368, and HB 94. HB 150 prohibits civil arrests in state courts and at the Delaware Industrial Accident Board. HB 368 restricts state law enforcement from extending detentions based solely on pending civil immigration or hold orders. HB 94 prohibits state and local law enforcement from cooperating with ICE in schools, hospitals, and places of worship, except in emergencies.

In the realm of education, Governor Meyer signed SB 302 and SB 303, which authorize a new needs-based school funding formula. These bills aim to create a more equitable and student-centered system. SB 302 allows the Delaware Department of Education to adopt a hybrid funding formula, while SB 303 codifies the Public Education Funding Commission into law to ensure ongoing oversight and accountability.
