Delayed symptoms in car accident injuries

Medical experts and legal analysts warn that serious injuries from automobile collisions can manifest days after an initial accident. This delayed onset is a documented physiological response to trauma, which can lead individuals to mistakenly believe they have escaped significant harm.

Concussions and mild traumatic brain injuries (TBI) are particularly noted for this behavior. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), symptoms of these injuries may not appear immediately and can be easily mistaken for other issues, even when they significantly impact how a person thinks, acts, or sleeps.

Data from the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics indicates that between 2019 and 2020, motor vehicle crashes resulted in an average of 3.8 million emergency room visits annually in the United States. This averages to approximately 11.6 visits per 1,000 people, with the highest frequency observed among drivers and passengers aged 15 to 24.
