Venezuela recovery efforts led by Delcy Rodríguez following major earthquakes

Acting President Delcy Rodríguez is leading extensive recovery and administrative efforts in Venezuela following devastating earthquakes on June 24. The death toll from the seismic events has risen to 6,301, with tens of thousands of people receiving hospital care.

To manage the crisis, Rodríguez has convened high-level meetings with the national economic cabinet and financial authorities to coordinate reconstruction funding. These efforts include urban rebuilding and social protection programs, utilizing resources such as funds from the International Monetary Fund and other reactivated external financial mechanisms. The 'Plan Venezuela Renace' initiative is currently overseeing the reconstruction of over 13,000 homes, with a goal to exceed 10,000 housing solutions by 2027.

In addition to earthquake relief, the government has launched the 'Bricomiles' program to rehabilitate 1,000 schools nationwide. Administratively, Rodríguez has also appointed Juan Crisóstomo Fernández as the new president of the state electricity company, Corpoelec, to strengthen essential services amid climate-related challenges.

A recent study by pollster Hinterlaces indicates that 61% of Venezuelans support the government's social protection policies following the quakes, and 69% support the reconstruction plan.
