Venezuela holds Second National Popular Consultation for 2026

Venezuela held its Second National Popular Consultation on Sunday, October 18, 2026, a process designed to allow communities to vote on state-funded development projects. More than 37,000 projects were submitted for consideration across more than 5,400 communal circuits.

In a significant expansion of the voting process, condominium boards and civil associations participated for the first time. The National Electoral Council (CNE) utilized a digital platform to help citizens locate polling stations and review proposed initiatives.

To secure the electoral process, the Bolivarian National Armed Forces deployed over 130,000 troops as part of Plan República. Officials, including Delcy Rodríguez, noted that the funds for winning projects are ready for immediate execution. The consultation focused on addressing local needs such as water access, electricity, road repairs, and school infrastructure.

Additionally, the government announced the development of a new Local Economy Law to complement the existing Communal Economy Law, part of the 'Plan Venezuela Alimenta' which aims to eradicate hunger by 2030.
