Dele Momodu apologises to Rotimi Amaechi amid ADC presidential race tensions

Veteran journalist and former presidential hopeful Dele Momodu said he did not intend to insult former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, posting an apology on X after Amaifi’s remarks about fellow ADC contender Atiku Abubakar. Amaechi, who is vying for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential nomination, had criticised Atiku’s stance on zoning and rejected calls for a consensus candidacy. Momodu urged Amaechi to "cool his temper" and warned that a potential president should avoid attacking Atiku. The exchange was described by Amaechi’s camp as abusive, prompting Momodu to clarify that he merely pleaded with Amaechi not to insult Atiku and emphasized their friendship.

Internal ADC dynamics show influential party members urging Amaechi to step aside for Atiku, a request Amaechi has refused, underscoring the strain within the party as it prepares for the upcoming presidential contest.
