Delek US refinery in Texas to expand via Defense Production Act

The Trump administration is invoking the Defense Production Act to expand the capacity of a Delek US Holdings refinery located in Tyler, Texas. Vice President JD Vance announced the move, stating the goal is to increase the production of millions of gallons of both commercial-grade and military-spec fuel.

The executive action is part of a broader strategy to combat rising fuel prices and domestic inflation linked to Middle East conflicts. The administration's energy initiatives also focus on boosting domestic petroleum output, natural gas transmission, liquefied natural gas capacity, and coal supply chains.

The Tyler refinery currently processes approximately 74,000 barrels per day. While specific funding amounts and the exact scale of the capacity increase have not been disclosed, the administration intends to use federal authority to modernize the power grid and prioritize energy infrastructure. This push follows controversial measures such as easing restrictions on Russian-origin diesel to increase market supply.
