Delfina Guzmán announces retirement from performing arts at age 98

Chilean actress Delfina Guzmán has announced her retirement from the performing arts at the age of 98, concluding a career spanning nearly 70 years. Her final project is a 30-minute short film titled ‘Ciudad’, written, directed, and composed by her son, pianist Juan Cristóbal Meza.

The film, which serves as a reflection on the transformations of Santiago, will premiere on September 7 at the Cineteca Nacional of the Centro Cultural La Moneda before being released on YouTube. The production features iconic locations such as Plaza Italia, Plaza de Armas, La Vega Central, La Moneda Palace, and Cerro San Cristóbal.

Guzmán began her career in 1956 after graduating from the University of Chile's School of Theater. She was a founding member of Teatro Ictus between 1965 and 1970 and gained widespread recognition through roles in television and film productions including ‘Sucupira’, ‘Estúpido Cupido’, ‘La Fiera’, ‘Pampa Ilusión’, and ‘El circo de las Montini’.
