Delft Island infrastructure upgrades and Ceigall India transmission project

Authorities in Delft Island, Sri Lanka, are seeking assistance from the Asian Development Bank to bolster infrastructure and tourism. The government is implementing several upgrades, including the provision of uninterrupted electricity via solar and wind power. To improve water security, the Treasury has allocated Rs 900 million for a new reverse osmosis (RO) plant, as current facilities only serve 626 of the island's 1,250 families. Additionally, Rs 235 million has been provided for a new passenger craft to enhance sea transportation. The island aims to become the country’s first zero-emission ecotourism destination.

In India, Ceigall India Limited has been awarded a Letter of Intent by REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited for a major transmission project in Gujarat valued at approximately Rs 5,300 crore. The project involves constructing a 765/400 kV Air Insulated Substation and roughly 300 km of transmission lines to facilitate power evacuation from renewable energy zones, including Lakadia, Jam Khambhaliya, and Jamnagar. The project is expected to take three years to complete, with an estimated operational lifespan of 35 years.
