Delhaize reports 15% annual growth in egg sales
Delhaize reports a significant rise in egg consumption, with the retailer selling over 100 million eggs so far this year across more than 10 million packages. Annual egg sales at the retailer are growing by an average of approximately 15%.
This growth is attributed to an increasing consumer focus on protein intake. Mieke Vandevoorde, Head of Category Management Dairy at Delhaize, noted that the ‘protein trend is becoming increasingly visible in the shopping basket.’ Eggs are being integrated into daily meals due to their high-quality protein content, ease of preparation, and affordability.
The seasonal sales patterns are also shifting; the traditional summer decline in egg sales is becoming less pronounced for the second consecutive year as consumers move toward viewing eggs as a daily dietary staple rather than a seasonal item.
