Delhi achieves target of planting 70 lakh saplings

The Delhi government has reached its target of planting 70 lakh saplings through the ‘Mission Green Delhi’ campaign. Launched on July 7 during Van Mahotsav, the initiative involved government departments, schools, NGOs, and local residents.

Significant portions of the planting occurred in the Central Ridge, DDA Ridge, and South Ridge areas, totaling nearly 2.5 million saplings. Public engagement was high, with over 147,000 citizens participating through a public booking facility to plant more than 350,000 saplings. Additionally, the ‘Vriksh Rath’ initiative distributed tens of thousands of saplings to various communities.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the goal extends beyond numerical targets to strengthening the region's ecosystem. The next phase of the campaign will prioritize the survival, protection, and nurturing of the newly planted saplings.
