Delhi announces major transport and traffic infrastructure projects

The Delhi government is set to construct a new 11-storey headquarters for the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) at the IP Estate Bus Depot. Estimated to cost approximately Rs 128.23 crore, the project will replace the existing outdated facility to better support the city’s expanding transport network. The new 26,000-square-metre complex will include two basements, a ground floor, and an operational area of 12,234 square metres. The plan also allocates 20 per cent of the land to green space and includes facilities for parking 200 buses and over 200 cars.

In a separate infrastructure move, the Centre has approved a Rs 1,789.52 crore Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) to address Delhi’s growing congestion. Implemented by the Delhi Police across 42 corridors, the system will replace static signal timings with adaptive technology that responds to real-time traffic flow. Key features include the prioritization of emergency vehicles, automated enforcement of traffic violations, and the use of Variable Message Signs to provide commuters with real-time updates on road conditions.
