Delhi approves Rs 151 crore forensic laboratory in Sheikh Sarai

The Delhi government has approved the construction of a new Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL) in Sheikh Sarai. The project has a budget of Rs 151.81 crore and is expected to be completed by the Public Works Department (PWD) within two years.

Spanning a built-up area of approximately 18,300 square metres on a 6,300 square metre plot, the facility is designed as an integrated laboratory to handle specialized scientific examinations of evidence. The new laboratory aims to support the Delhi Police and the Home Department in managing the increased demand for forensic investigations following the implementation of new criminal laws, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).

The Sheikh Sarai facility will primarily serve the South, Southeast, and Central Delhi districts while providing additional scientific support to the existing Forensic Science Laboratory in Rohini. Officials stated that the infrastructure will strengthen the capacity for scientific investigations, aiding in criminal trials and the broader justice-delivery process.
