Delhi approves Rs 9.75 crore aid for 123 athletes

The Delhi government has approved Rs 9.75 crore in financial assistance for 123 sportspersons under the Mukhyamantri Khel Protsahan Yojana (MMKPY). The beneficiaries include 89 elite athletes and 34 school-level athletes.

In the first phase, Rs 5.85 crore, representing 60 per cent of the total, will be transferred directly to the verified bank accounts of the recipients. The remaining Rs 3.90 crore will be released following the verification of expenditure-related documents, such as utilization certificates and supporting vouchers.

Under the scheme, elite sportspersons are eligible for up to Rs 20 lakh each to cover costs for specialized coaching, nutrition, training, and modern equipment. The program has also expanded its scope to include new disciplines. At the elite level, these include Wushu, roller skating, kabaddi, handball, and basketball. School-level support will now cover Wushu, Mallakhamb, Yogasana, and roller skating.
