Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta urges youth to join politics

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta has called on young people to move beyond being mere observers of political and democratic processes and to actively participate in public life and governance. Speaking to students from various Delhi University colleges—including Rajdhani, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Shivaji, and Law Centre-I—as part of the Delhi Assembly’s Youth Outreach Programme, Gupta emphasized the role of youth in contributing to the goal of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).

During the interaction, students inquired about parliamentary functioning and Gupta’s personal transition from Leader of the Opposition to Speaker. Gupta noted that his previous experience in the opposition shaped his commitment to ensuring all House members, regardless of political affiliation, receive a fair and meaningful opportunity to speak within the framework of parliamentary rules. He also highlighted measures taken to increase transparency and discipline in the Assembly, such as the use of timers on display screens to manage speaking time.
