New Seemapuri building collapse kills four and injures eight
A residential building collapse in the New Seemapuri area of northeast Delhi has resulted in at least four deaths and left eight people injured. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon near Idgah Machhli Mandi when a four-storey structure suddenly gave way, partially damaging two adjoining buildings.
The deceased include a 21-year-old pregnant woman, a 12-year-old girl, and two children. Eight survivors were rescued from the debris and transported to Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital in Tahirpur for medical treatment. The injured have been identified as Momin Mirja, Abdul Rehman, Devruddin, Salma, Chote, Sakina, Samad, and a three-year-old boy.
Multiple agencies, including the Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Police, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), conducted large-scale rescue operations. While the exact cause of the collapse is under investigation, some reports suggest the structure may have been weakened by recent tremors, while others noted the building was constructed on a small 25-square-yard plot. This tragedy follows several other recent building collapses in the Delhi region.
