Delhi cab driver arrested for kidnapping, raping and murdering 11‑year‑old girl

Police in Delhi arrested a cab driver from Bihar after he abducted a sleeping child from a footpath in the Mahrauli area, raped her, strangled her with a scarf and dumped her body on a remote stretch of the Faridabad‑Gurugram road. The driver, identified as Bashu Kumar Singh (also referred to as Babul), had been operating an app‑based taxi while intoxicated. A four‑hour search involving ride‑hailing company data, GPS logs and CCTV footage led officers to the suspect's vehicle, which they surrounded in the Vikaspuri neighbourhood. During transport to the crime scene, the suspect attempted to flee, prompting police to fire on him and wound him in the leg. He was subsequently taken to hospital. Investigations revealed he suffers from erectile dysfunction, a fact noted after his confession that the condition prevented him from completing the rape before killing the girl. Singh has five prior criminal cases, including two attempted murder charges. In response, Delhi police plan to issue notices to major ride‑hailing platforms to tighten driver verification and onboarding processes.
